Jebel Ali Recreation Club
Time Out Says
So what are they doing right? For those who crave a simpler life and a reminder of home, everything, really.
Pretensions are left at the door, and so is the fresh air (it gets smoky). The crowd is mostly long-term expats, who we suspect have been coming here for as long as they’ve been in Dubai. The décor in the main bar really is like a working men’s club in the UK, there’s a big sports bar with pool tables and a stage for live music, an outside space where there’s also music, weather permitting, and a smaller area more suitable for eating (though we don’t think anyone is coming here for food).
Prices are reasonable, with regular deals and happy hours, staff know exactly what they’re doing, and sports fans are well catered for with big screens.
If you’re after glamour, this isn’t the place. For everything else, it is.
The Bottom Line
No frills and no fuss, but plenty of character.
