Time Out Says
This al fresco spot sits on the terrace of chef Darren Velvick’s The Croft, and there’s definite humour to the decor. The result feels like something between an English pub garden and your gran’s back garden. The bar itself is a wooden hut covered in a corrugated sheet, just like a little shed. There’s fake grass aplenty, a few deck chairs, hefty wooden tables and benches, and brightly coloured watering cans on every table stuffed with foliage. The table decorations look a bit like they’ve been hand-picked by chef Velvick’s kids, but the result is that family-friendly watering hole feel that British pubs achieve so well. But British pubs lack these Dubai Marina views. Once the sun goes down, the entire garden is lit up by candles and becomes an attractive and ambient place to while away an evening. The tipple of choice is, of course, juniper-based. The selection isn’t vast, but it is decent and includes a sloe variety and a premium distillation made with botanicals such as green tea. Juniper fans will be particularly pleased with a choice of tonic water, too.
