Kitakits Kafe & Klubb
Time Out Says
We head to the Filipino bar in Deira on a Tuesday ladies’ night, hoping to catch some of the famous karaoke and live music. And we’re not disappointed.
When we arrive, it’s all quite sedate, albeit with the sizeable sound system pumping out a series of schmaltzy throwback hits. The bar’s interiors are tired, with tatty sofas and walls that could be doing with a lick of paint – but there are enough coloured lights to knock you back into the 1980s, and a lighting rig that could rival international arenas.
Around mid-way through the evening a singer takes to the stage and immediately launches into renditions of romantic hits by everyone from Eric Clapton to Lady Gaga – with the lyrics flashed up on screens dotted around the venue. Despite it being quite late into the evening, there aren’t many customers – but everyone at least seems to be having a good time, Dhs45 pints in hand. Fortunately, more customers do trickle in throughout the night, but it never becomes fully busy.
The mood is lively and fun and the crowd that are there get going with various singers – from the club and public – taking to the stage to belt out a few tunes.
It’s all capped off with a live band, who bring plenty of energy to the stage despite the small crowd size.
While it’s not the most packed spot in town, Kitakits is well worth a visit. You’re guaranteed to have a fun night out here.
