McGettigan's JLT

Popular bar in the Jumeirah Lake Towers has regular entertainment

Time Out Says

There are few things worse than walking into a bar to be confronted with an almost empty room and a wall of silence, which is why we’re grateful for the ever-present masses at McGettigan’s. But we can’t help wondering if this pub is getting too popular for its own good. We’re yet to have a bad night here, but things would certainly improve if they managed the numbers better.

That said, it’s a relief in spookily quiet summer to find somewhere that’s as fun and cheery as ever. Though they evidently don’t need a happy hour to boost numbers during the week, we’d still be grateful for a few drinks deals now and again, and an alternative to the Dhs99 ‘brunch’ offer. On the subject of food, however, we are pleased to note that the standard of grub is far from slipping, and the variety of drinks – including our favourite pear-flavoured brew – continues to impress.

Our only enduring quibble is the smoky atmosphere. During the busiest of evenings, the air is so thick with smoke that the atmosphere is borderline intolerable, and when it’s too hot to reside outside, there’s no way of avoiding it. Whether through better ventilation or designated non-smoking areas, it’s something we’d be pleased to see rectified.
