The name ‘Holiday Inn’ may not conjure up high expectations, but Dubai’s Al Barsha branch does a surprisingly good job with most of its outlets
Time Out Says
The name ‘Holiday Inn’ may not conjure up high expectations, but Dubai’s Al Barsha branch does a surprisingly good job with most of its outlets, including the perfectly fine sports bar The Q. So we can understand the reasoning behind Mojito: with a plush, cosy bar already running in the hotel, a second lobby-level drinks outlet needs to provide something more niche. Still, we wonder whether a dedication to a particular cocktail is really enough to anchor an entire bar concept. Not that the cocktails are bad. On our visit we took along a connoisseur, who gave the tipples a hearty thumbs-up. But the tiny, flatly-lit venue offers little in the way of atmosphere or decor (cute logos on the ceiling and walls aside, there’s not much to distinguish it from a partitioned-off chunk of lobby), and we can’t imagine it getting busy unless The Q is full to capacity. And no matter how good the cocktails are, sitting in an almost-empty Mojito when you know there’s a busier, more lively bar next door doesn’t sound very enticing at all.
