Mosaic Chill

Pool bar is suffering identity crisis

Time Out Says

Hidden away behind Kempinski’s spa at Mall of the Emirates, this decking-clad pool bar that isn’t quite sure what it wants to be. Tables, chairs and beanbags are scattered around the two infinity pools, which are for the use of the hotel residents only. The bar, hidden behind a free-standing wall when you emerge from the building and onto the roof, sums up the dual nature of Mosaic Chill: you can stand at half the bar or swim up to the other half, but you don’t really feel comfortable doing either.

Although the venue is perfectly pleasant, drinks (mixed beverages, grape, spirits, smoothies and soft drinks) err on the side of expensive, while the food (spring rolls, sandwiches, fish and chips) is satisfactory, but not outstanding. We guess in winter this might be a cool place for a quiet drink ‘a deux’ after a hard day’s shopping, but between jealously watching other people swim and being looked down on from three sides by hotel rooms, you get the impression you’re intruding on other people’s holidays.
