Time Out Says
The décor is standard British pub –wooden furnishings, leather-seated booths, frosted glass windows – although the atmosphere doesn’t live up to your local back home. And the prices are a world a way, with a glass of house grape coming in at Dhs52, which is way overpriced for this less-than-fancy location.
There is a daily happy hour, however which makes it a little more palatable, where you’ll get house drinks from Dhs27 from 4pm until 8pm. And the large bowl of free popcorn is welcome.
Ladies’ night falls on a Tuesday from 9pm, so if your usual order is Russian beverages you’ll be happy (if not, bad luck – there’s no alternative).
It’s a massive space, which is hard to fill, and although there’s a handful of people in there on our visit, it’s pretty lifeless midweek, lacking the warm and friendly vibe of a local pub. There’s live music throughout the week, as well as quiz nights and brunches, and on our visit the band give it a good go at livening the place up.
There’s also a bar snacks menu, as well as traditional pub grub including pies, fish and chips and full English breakfasts, as well as screens showing the sport.
With dartboards, pool tables, live music and a laid-back vibe there’s plenty to like about Nell Gwynne, but don’t expect to come for a cheap drink or a lively atmosphere outside of happy hour.
