Everybody in Dubai knows that The Irish Village in Al Garhoud is a bit of an institution.
And now this classic hangout near the airport, has been given the international recognition it deserves after being named best Irish pub on the planet!
Beating off competition from all across the globe - Glasgow’s Jinity McGuinty’s, Kevin Barry’s in Savannah (Georgia, USA), Galway Bay in Annapolis (Maryland, USA), and Jameson Distillery and Pub in the German city of Cologne - including local rival McGettigan's, it scooped the prize at the Irish Pubs Global Awards
And also in the UAE, Abu Dhabi's McGettigan's took home the coveted crown for Best International Pub Food.
“Dubai and the Irish Village has become part of the community for the past twenty years,” Dave Cattanach of The Irish Village told the BBC about the Irish Pubs Global award. “New people coming to Dubai head to the Irish Village because they know they’ll get the Irish welcome.
“We’re also a good pub to know what’s going on in Dubai.”
As Time Out's reigning Pub of the Year winner and a recurring champion over the years, we couldn’t agree more with the IV’s brand-new and prestigious award.
The dark wood panelling and bric-à-brac dotted about the spacious venue makes you feel like you’re sitting in a quaint bar in the middle of Ireland. But its major draw, during the cooler weather, is the large garden with picnic tables.
It’s also a good place for food, with a strong menu of hearty classics, and on weeknights you’ll often find the pub as popular with diners as drinkers.
Then look at the special events it hosts, year in year out – from big name acts live under the stars to footie tents and calendar-defining happenings, such as HopFest and Arthur’s Day – and you can easily see how The IV earned it enviable reputation.
