Three new rooftop bars to try

Two brand-new spots and one revamped classic on Sheikh Zayed Road

It’s December, the weather’s perfect – it’s time to make the most of a rooftop bar. You’ll be spoilt for choice on Sheikh Zayed Road, as the area has two brand-new ones, plus one revamped favourite in the shape of 40 Kong.

If you’re after top views, sunset drinks and tasty bar bites, then recently opened View should be on your to-visit list. View, which boasts vistas across to Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai, offers comfy lounge seating and a relaxed but classy atmosphere. Billed as a “sophisticated al fresco soirée destination”, the new venue is open from 4pm until 2am daily, so you can head there to catch the sunset or later to party.

And if you’re after some nibbles, then there’s a menu with bites provided by the hotel’s jones the grocer outlet. Light eats including cheeses, antipasto and charcuterie platters are all available, and if you’re on the hungrier side dishes include truffle and mushroom risotto and jones’ famous wagyu burger.
Open daily 4pm-2am. Dusit Thani Dubai, Sheikh Zayed Road (04 317 4457).

Set on the rooftop of The Metropolitan Hotel, brand-new Tropicana showcases city-wide views and a Tiki-themed vibe. Signature Hawaiian mixed drinks star on the menu, plus there’s plenty of tropical décor to get you in a Polynesian mood.

There’s an all-day menu, as the venue doubles as a poolside lounge, with fusion dishes and bar bites served from 10am-10pm.

Put on your Hawaiian shirts and head here for sundowners.
Open daily 10am-10pm. The Metropolitan Hotel Dubai, Sheikh Zayed Road (04 343 0000).

40 Kong
Time Out Dubai’s current Outdoor Bar of the Year, 40 Kong, has had makeover for the winter and is well-worth a visit.

40 Kong “is embracing the dining concept” this time around, and it’s open for dinner every day from 7pm to 1am with dishes including miso-marinated black cod and wagy sliders.

Long a popular spot with residents and visitors alike (especially for residents with visitors), the Sheikh Zayed Road venue offers up stunning views across the city. Set, as you’d expect, on the 40th floor of the hotel, the skyline views from 40 Kong are nothing less than spectacular.
Open daily 7pm-3am, food served 8pm-1am. The H Dubai, Sheikh Zayed Road (04 355 8896).
