Pure Sky Lounge
Time Out Says
So much so, that it’s no longer enough for a venue to merely rely on its views as a crutch. With this in mind, we return to Pure Sky Lounge on the 35th floor of Hilton Dubai Jumeirah, located at JBR.
Don’t make the mistake of walking into the main building, however, it’s the entrance on The Walk side of the road that you’ll want, not the beachfront hotel that houses BiCE, Trader Vic’s and McGettigan’s.
After getting lost along several hotel corridors, we make our way up to the bird’s eye spot.
It’s all decked out in Ibiza-style whites and blues, however, it all feels a bit dated and tacky. The slighty shabby décor is rescued a little by atmospheric and dim lighting, but it’s just not as shiny and fresh as it once was.
The views, however, are why you’re there, and they are worth the trip. Glass panels allow you see the whole of the Palm, Bluewaters, Ain Dubai and the Arabian Gulf, and despite being open air the bar still has an intimate vibe.
Our table, unfortunately, is next to an enormous whitewashed wall. But despite the slightly obstructed views, we settle into our large couch-style seats and order some drinks.
Hops comes in at around Dhs47 for a bottle, while a signature mixed beverage will set you back Dhs63, so it’s not terrible for a bar of this style, but not cheap night out either. There is a daily happy hour from 6pm until 8pm with drinks starting at Dhs30, though.
Half way through the evening, a live DJ appears and spins out relaxed beach-side beats. They’re joined shortly after by an electric violinist who plays along, which is a fun touch and the vibe is upbeat and lively.
It’s not a bad place if you’re in the area and want to impress visitors with the view, but there are better high-rise bars.
