Time Out Says
Sitting in the space that housed the short-lived Amsterdam Hub is now Quench. Gone are the barrel tables and harsh green lights, the interiors have been given a fresh new makeover.
Billed as a “sports lounge” the only problem is it doesn’t show live sport. So, if you’re looking to catch the match, you’ll be out of luck.
On our visit Quench is very quiet, with only a handful of other patrons. And we can’t see that as being unusual. Hidden away on the first floor of the Sofitel Hotel JBR, there’s no footfall and no real way to know it was there, unless you’re already en route.
The large space is kitted out well enough, with a pool table at the far end, a lengthy bar and high tables with stools, but the vibe just isn’t there.
The bar menu isn’t extensive, but everything you’d expect to see is on there, from chicken wings to nachos and burgers. And it’s a nice touch that every dish comes with a drinks idea to pair it with. The chicken quesadilla deserves a mention – it’s a big portion, plus fries, for Dhs50 and comes oozing with gooey cheese.
Drinks come in at around Dhs45 for a glass of house grape or a pint, but there’s a daily happy hour from 4pm until 8pm where prices start at just Dhs20.
There’s a handful of deals on throughout the week, too, including a Monday ladies’ night where women get free grape and mixed drinks from 8pm until midnight and unlimited drinks for Dhs220 on a Tuesday from 7pm until 10pm. There’s also promised to be live music and open mic nights, too.
Sadly Quench doesn’t satisfy in the way the name suggests it should, as if you’re after live sport you might be frustrated.
