RAS Beach Vibes Lounge
Time Out Says
RAS Beach Vibes is a Jamaican-inspired hangout, kitted out with all the reds, yellows and greens you’d expect, and prides itself on being as easy-going as the laid-back nation from which it comes.
There’s football (silently) emanating from a handful of screens dotted around the bar – plus a large central projector above a stage ready for full band action at the weekend and a solo acoustic guitarist in the midweek. There’s a funky style about this bar, from the Aladdin’s Cave-worthy magic carpets incongruously dangling from the roof, to the cast-iron floor-to-ceiling railings that separate a more intimate section of the bar from the rest of the place. How very cosy.
Like many a spot in Club Vista Mare, however, the interior plays second fiddle to the more expansive terrace overlooking the sea and accompanying beach. On our visit, it’s ladies’ night, where women get three free house drinks and 30 percent off food.
It is, though, to our chagrin that we find ourselves repeatedly following up on our orders, and a distinct lack of effort (or, indeed, interest) from the waiting staff means we’re left feeling less than irie.
The blow is softened somewhat by the all-day discount on specific house drinks, with many starting from Dhs30, and bottles of grape available for just Dhs99.
But a nigh-on 90-minute wait for our food to arrive (on top of the 15-minute wait for drinks), makes this place appear under-resourced. It almost verges on complacency, knowing its customers are mainly going to be Palm residents calling this their local.
“Don’t worry about a thing,” sings Mr Marley. We’re not sure.
