Seven Sisters

A funky, open-air mixed drinks bar hailing from Lebanon

Time Out Says

While it may inadvertently turn into a bit of a hike through the ground floor of the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai in Business Bay (the journey to Seven Sisters hardly takes place on the most illuminated or sign-posted path), you’ll find that the extra nudge upwards on your daily steps counter is worth it.

A pre-summer arrival on the Dubai nightlife scene, Seven Sisters is the first international branch of a popular Asia-meets-Europe open-air bar from Beirut.

And, as you’d expect of a bar from this region, it’s full of funky beats, swanky décor and an extensive range of mixed drinks.

This one, following a mid-summer revamp which saw the introduction of some removable bay windows, also has a decidedly garden-themed design and interior – we’re talking grass on the walls and everything.

You enter at the rear of the aforementioned hotel, greeted first by a “is your name on the list” sort of concierge and bouncer dynamic duo.

Once you’ve successfully navigated your way past the imposing and potentially night-ending velvet rope, head up a narrow staircase (making sure to swerve some rather intrusive horticulture that threatens your ascent in the process).

Now safely at the top, expect to be greeted by helpful staff. They’re keen to show us to our table – they’re also equally keen to keep this bar clutter-free, and kindly (yet firmly) insist we leave our bag at the door.

The bar seating is a mixture of high table with proportionally high stools as well as lower lounge tables to chill out at.

We peruse the impressively broad menu of drinks, which includes an entire page dedicated to speciality mixed drinks – “the international drinks aren’t on the menu” we’re told by our waiter, but concedes they are available upon request.

Careful when ordering here, however, because prices listed on the menu (roughly Dhs45 for house drinks) come in an extra 12 percent pricier than advertised due to taxes.

Despite a nigh-on obsessive need to clear our drinks away almost before we’ve finished them (are they short of glasses, or something?), there’s a lively, fun vibe and simply stunning night-time views of the Dubai Water Canal bridge (and that colourful waterfall).

And the two latters outweigh the former as far as we’re concerned. We’ll be back.
