Time Out Says
You know the sort of pictures we’re talking about: beautiful people smiling into the distance, drink in hand, sunset in the background with a caption like “Experience everything, live unconditionally, be life”.
But, to the credit of this new bar found at the recently opened W Dubai – The Palm, it has equal amounts of substance as it does style, so it doesn’t just live the #InstagramLife.
Walking through the gigantic lobby of this famously uber-trendy hotel brand, and almost crooking our neck at the space-age art and design décor, we head to the fifth floor, where we’re greeted warmly by staff dressed in suitably sleek all-white attire.
The bar itself has a mish-mash of themes, sitting somewhere between industrial heavy-metal hangout (with artwork painted on the walls presumably inspired by many a biker’s tattoo), and Miami beach bar chic (it’s named after South Beach, after all).
There’s neon pink and purple lights throughout the central bar area, and out to the terrace where palm trees coated in fairy lights say hello to barbed(ish) wire, comfy booths and high tables.
Unlike many bars service is not only friendly, but fun, meaning any fears of pretention quickly evaporate.
The entire experience is fun, and the new bar already has a number of late-night partygoers at it – which is testament to its burgeoning popularity. And that’s also, in part, down to its reasonably priced drinks – coming in at Dhs39 for a house drink outside of happy hour.
And to go alongside the decent drinks offering is a menu of bar bites including corn tortilla quesadillas, warm olives, guacamole and loads of other nibbles of the like.
As we try to leave we find ourselves distracted by the retro pinball machines located not too far from the main entrance – a clever ploy to keep us hanging round a little longer. We gladly oblige, because SoBe is a cracking new bar to visit.
