Time Out Says
Set in Damac Hills at Trump International Golf Club, Stoke House is a decent addition to the gastropub scene in Dubai.
The large venue overlooks the greenery of the 500-acre golf course and the expansive terrace is a great spot to while away a lazy weekend afternoon.
The venue itself is split into four distinct areas – indoor dining, outdoor dining/lounge, bar and bar terrace. So if you’re eating you’ll be well away from the bar, and if you’re in the bar you won’t feel as if you’re interrupting someone’s dinner.
Outside we’d recommend settling into one of the comfy sofas, ordering up a cold one and kicking back with some mates. Inside there are plenty of big screens to watch live sport, as well as a central pool table if you fancy challenging your mate to a (free) game.
On our visit it’s fairly busy, with groups of golfers having just finished their rounds and couples watching the match. It has a blokey, sports pub vibe to it, but with a much more clinical feel than your local back home.
Prices are fairly keen, with a pint sitting around the Dhs50 mark and bottles of hops at Dhs40, while glasses of grape start at Dhs30 and don’t get higher than Dhs37, which is welcome – and a little surprising.
And to make it even more appealing there’s a daily happy hour from 4pm until 8pm where you’ll get drinks for just Dhs29.
There’s also a range of deals and events including a Friday barbecue brunch, Sunday roasts and even a Sunday Sports Day deal, where you’ll get ten percent off your total bill when the pub shows a televised sports event.
The new spot comes from Gates Hospitality, the team behind folly by Nick & Scott (our Best European Restaurant 2018) and Reform Social & Grill (our Best Pub Food and Best Breakfast winner 2018), so it’s not a bad decision to try something from the bar menu while you’re there, with dishes including Scotch eggs and pies.
Stoke House is a decent new weekend spot if you live in the area, but you’d probably not rush there if you don’t.
