Time Out Says

With dark wood furniture and moody lighting, The Eloquent Elephant is definitely at the classy end of the pub scale; there are no dodgy ’70s patterned carpets or ripped leather barstools here. In fact it’s more sophisticated bar than pub, not that we’re complaining as we love the décor, with light bulbs suspended in glass jars adorning one wall giving it an urban vibe.

The venue itself is small and cosy, and it’s smoke-free, which means you can enjoy the proper (gastro) pub-style grub (think fish and chips, burgers and a “elephant” curry: a nod to the Taj hotel brand’s roots) without wafting away fumes.

The buzzing atmosphere still holds a laid-back air, and even when it’s full you won’t struggle to hear your companions, so it’s an ideal place to catch up with friends over a glass of grape or a craft hops – for which the pub is known.

This is one watering hole worth visiting.

The Bottom Line

A cool, laid-back and upmarket, smoke-free spot.
