Time Out Says

Walking into Liquid Lounge is vaguely how we imagine stepping out of Dr Who’s Tardis might feel – you’re not entirely sure which time period you’ve stumbled into. Loud carpet patterns glare beneath cosy arrangements of plush red seats, and the aroma of cigars drifts through the air, but the flicker of wide-screen TVs will reassure you that you’re still in 2010.

While this may be an obscure spot for a weekend drink, both in terms of location (near the port in Bur Dubai) and decor, it’s a jolly good find, namely because for the first time since summer kicked in and every bar in the city ramped up the A/C, our teeth weren’t chattering and we could still feel our toes when we left. And thanks to strategically placed screens in between tables, it also affords something that many bars no longer seem to consider: privacy.

Though drink prices are average, bar snacks are surprisingly expensive given the location and lack of view – the cheapest nibbles available being humble spring rolls for Dhs40, while the priciest is a ‘seafood platter’ with French fries for an astonishing Dhs120. But don’t let this put you off. If you want a quiet drink and a place to read the paper, this little lounge is just the ticket.
