The Polo Bar
Time Out Says
The hotel is grandiose, opulent and undeniably impressive – if not a little intimidating.
It’s not the kind of place you’d stumble upon, but it is worth a visit if you’re after something fancy, or an excellent cut of meat – it’s also home to our Best Steakhouse, World Cut Steakhouse. And if you’re dining then The Polo Bar is decent choice for a pre-dinner drink.
The large space is occupied by leather sofas, comfy chairs and there’s a smoking room, too. There are various nods to the polo theme – a saddle, plus equestrian art adorning the walls.
For such a fancy hotel, prices are similar to much of Dubai, with grape and hops at around Dhs50, while an inventive list of mixed drinks can set you back up to Dhs100. Ladies, visit on a Monday or Tuesday and you’ll be treated to mixed drinks for just Dhs5 each.
The Polo Bar is styled on the “classic bars of New York’s gilded age” and promises an “aura of sophistication”. Sophisticated it may be – and we can imagine what it could be like – but it’s also empty and lacks an aura of any kind.
However, it could be a cosy spot with more patrons and dimmer lighting.
