The Rose & Crown
Time Out Says
The traditional pub also boasts a pool table, a dartboard, Jenga and large screens for the big matches. There are squashy leather sofas to watch the game, dark wooden corner booths for quiet chats and high bar stools for groups.
There’s even a bright red phone box outside, of course. Just about everything at this Al Habtoor City spot screams Britannia. And it’s not bad at all.
The pub is set next to the popular aquatheatre La Perle, meaning most evenings have a steady crowd of theatregoers both pre- and post-show, and it’s a decent option if you’re looking for a pint to round off your evening of theatre. This means it’s also often busy, and has a warm, friendly vibe.
Downstairs benefits from a good amount of tables and corners to hide in. Or, if you take the lavish winding wooden staircase up a level, you’ll find the multiple aforementioned pub games to keep you busy.
Staff are chatty, the hop options are decent and everyday there’s a happy hour between 4pm and 8pm where drinks start at Dhs29, which won’t raise too many British eyebrows.
There’s proper pub grub on the menu – fish and chips, pie and mash, sausages – if you’re peckish, too.
The Rose & Crown may be filled with clichés, but not unenjoyably so. And while sometimes the veneer can lose its shine in some places, it’s balanced enough to remain fun and authentic enough to enjoy.
