Both a party spot and relaxing lounge – depending on when you visit

Time Out Says

Poolside lounge bars are tricky things to get right and at first, it seems like the W Dubai might have got things very wrong. First impressions aren’t great, as you go from ostentatious lobby to clinical, deserted corridor. But what you’ll actually find, in the end, is a venue that’s simple, sleek and quite striking.

It’s a quiet evening when we visit, and the combination of soft, glowing light from the heaters, winding blue pool and illuminated sci-fi looking cubes (these are dotted around covering the more private tables) actually make for a pretty atmospheric setting. On our visit the music varies between funky jazz and chilled-out lounge, and although drinks are pricey – Dhs75 for a glass of grape, Dhs55 for hops and Dhs75 for a mixed drink – there’s plenty of choice.

Once we settle into the comfy lounge seats with blankets and a heater we find the whole ambience unexpectedly relaxing. While there are regular events held here that cater to Dubai’s all-day-pool-party-loving crowd, on any other night we could happily while away a few hours over quiet sundowners. Choose your night wisely and this is a great all-rounder.

The bottom line
A relaxing, atmospheric spot when you avoid the party crowd.
