Spa gazing

Several new havens of luxury and wellbeing have set up shop in Dubai

Serenity Spa & Wellness Centre

The best thing about the newly opened Serenity Spa? The price. Its treatment menu includes most of the traditional options you’d expect and there are a range of massages on offer, from scalp to leg to full body. But they come at a fraction of the cost of the five-star counterparts: indulge in a 90-minute deep tissue massage for a mere Dhs250. Honestly, can the cost be beat? We think not.
Flora Creek Hotel Apartments, Deira (04 294 3500). Open daily 10am-midnight.

The Spa at The Address Dubai Mall & Dubai Marina

The two new Addresses have near-identical new spas, but that doesn’t make them any less relaxing. Then again, with treatment names like ‘rejuvenate’, ‘revive’ and ‘radiance’, how can they be anything but? The spa’s signature treatments use pure and organic aromatherapy essential oils and the Marina branch has cleansing steam baths, while the Dubai Mall branch boasts a rasul. Both are ideal for anyone looking for a post-Christmas pick-me-up.
The Spa at the Address Dubai Mall (04 438 8888); The Spa at the Address Dubai Marina (04 436 7777). Open daily 9am-9pm.

Core Dance Academy

Okay, so it’s not strictly a spa, but this children’s dance centre at the Marina will certainly help mums to relax and unwind by taking the kids off their hands for a few hours. The academy is run by Michelle Edwards, who started dancing at the age of four. Classes are geared towards kids aged one to 18, and there’s even a mums ’n’ tots class to help bonding between new mothers and their babes.
Studio at The Waves Tower by Damac, Dubai Marina (04 362 6385). Open Sun-Thu 11am-6pm.

It’s no wonder this huge new space – spanning 12,000sq ft – is called a ‘hyper-salon’: its therapists can treat pretty much everything. In its employ are brow specialists, hand and feet experts, professional masseurs and more. But its real expertise is in waxing. If you find your standard ol’ Brazilian a bit boring or mundane, the therapists have a number of alternative shapes they can offer, from arrows to letters of the alphabet. There’s also a party room, where gaggles of girls can celebrate a birthday or hen do in style. Every other Monday, the spa offers selected services for half price.
Oasis Centre, Sheikh Zayed Road (04 515 4400). Open daily 10am-10pm.

Real Pilates

Finally, Jumeirah residents passionate about Pilates and yoga have a place to call their own. The newly opened Real Pilates has two studios, which host classes from 6.30am-8pm (a hectic schedule is no longer an excuse for missing out on a good stretching session). In addition to a flexible schedule, Real Pilates has special equipment that helps to make exercises easier.
Palm Strip Mall, Jumeirah 1 (04 345 3228). Open daily 6.30am-8pm.
