Valentine's-inspired couples treatments to try in Dubai spas

Cupid’s chocolate body ritual for two at Club Olympus Spa
Best for: those with a sweet tooth
Our treatment took place in the romantically lit couples’ room: we lay side by side on twin massage tables as the two therapists (one male, one female) slathered us in chocolate scrub, followed by a chocolate wrap and a full-body massage. The products were sweet without being sickly, although the showering in between each step was disrupting and didn’t do much for the relaxing atmosphere. Yet we rediscovered our calm during the massage, which was heavenly. Next time we’d skip the scrub and wrap and opt for a longer massage – the ideal romantic afternoon.

Cherish moments package for two at Heavenly Spa
Best for: mature couples

After settling onto the massage beds in a couple’s room – there is the option of separate rooms – our therapists began to load on the body scrub, de-scaling away. We had one female and one male therapist and the somewhat unexpected presence of another man made for an uncomfortable post-scrub shower, but he was respectful. While the Swedish massage was relaxing, the lack of fragrant oils means we’d opt for Thai next time. The facial left our skin silky smooth, pores thoroughly cleaned. After a special lip scrub we admired our gleaming skin over a complimentary glass of bubbly, and we did feel like we’d been struck by Cupid’s arrow. Dhs1,780 per couple for two hours 20 minutes, included unlimited use of the separate men’s and women’s wet facilities. The Westin Dubai (04 511 7901)

Valentines Spa Package at The Palace
Best for: isolated pampering

On arrival we were whisked to a private suite where a romantic (if clichéd) setting awaited us: candlelight and rose petals scattered on adjacent massage beds. An en-suite bathroom gave us the privacy to change into fluffy robes before our therapists (male and female) sat us opposite one another for oriental foot baths. The 75-minute full-body massage used silk-like oils that melted into the skin, followed by an express facial – a first for our partner, whose stubble was no obstacle for the high-end Hommage products. The final treat was the arrival of a butler bearing bubbly and chocolate-dipped strawberries.
Dhs750 per couple for one hour 45 minutes. The Palace, Downtown Burj Khalifa (04 428 7805)
