Natura Bisse facial

Time Out tests this high-end Spanish beauty brand's facial

Tried & tested
The spa

The Address Dubai Marina’s spa follows a similar blueprint to many of the city’s pampering venues: dark wood, creamy colour scheme and a generous scattering of candles. The changing area is spacious, with plenty of freebie products (plus the squeakiest spa slippers we’ve ever heard), and the toilets are huge – it’ll take you at least three paces to cross from the door to the lavatory.

The promise

The spa’s treatments use products from high-end Spanish beauty brand Natura Bissé, beloved by celebs including Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna. The facial I’ve chosen, ‘The Cure’, promises to cleanse the pores, decongest and hydrate the skin and soften fine lines using the brand’s oxygen-rich products.

Step by step

After settling me down in the treatment room, therapist Ami runs through each stage of the facial. She’s knowledgeable, happy to answer my questions (‘What does this cream do? How long will you leave it on my face?’) and introduces each of the products, leaving me confident that my skin is in safe hands. First up, she cleanses my face: it’s my first experience of the Natura Bissé products, and I’m impressed. The cleanser feels rich and luxurious, yet has a fresh, clean scent that seems natural and healthy.

The next step is the rather scary-sounding ‘glyco-peeling exfoliator’; Ami explains that this super-exfoliant contains glycolic acid, which can cause the skin to tingle, but is also extremely mild so can be used on the lips and eye area. After a quick patch test (luckily I’m not allergic), she slathers the gel onto my face. She’s right about the tingle, yet it’s not unpleasant – it really feels as though the exfoliant is getting to work. It doesn’t even need to be massaged in, so she gives me a fabulous hand and arm massage while I wait.

After a quick wipe and pat down with a refreshing hot towel, she gets to work on the facial massage, which is pleasantly relaxing, and I struggle to stay awake. The treatment is rounded off with a fantastic head massage and a slather of moisturiser to leave my skin super-hydrated.

Pros

• The high-end Natura Bissé products give this facial an edge – you know the creams and potions are top-quality, and they smell fantastically fresh.
• The exfoliation is super-effective, yet gentle: it doesn’t leave my skin red-raw.
• This facial doesn’t include a steam or extraction, yet is still great for cleansing, and you avoid looking red and sunburnt as you emerge from the spa.

Cons

• If you’re a fan of extractions, you may leave disappointed.

Result

Immediately after the facial my complexion feels a little greasy from the moisturiser. Yet a few hours later, when my skin has had a chance to absorb the cream, I look and feel radiant. Even with no make-up, my complexion looks clear, smooth and glowing.
