JetSet at Palm Strip Mall

Holly Sands visits new branch to add life to her locks

The salon
As the name suggests, JetSet salons are designed to reflect the ‘intimate luxury and comforts of a jet liner’. The theme hasn’t been forgotten at the salon’s newest branch in Palm Strip Mall, with its retro-futuristic feel, though it’s not as pronounced as in the Grosvenor House or Emirates Towers branches.

The promise
I’m told my hair will be looked after by a highly trained, knowledgeable professional.

Step by step
I’ve opted for a cut and colour to overhaul my locks, which have been looking increasingly drab courtesy of many hours spent in the sun. When I arrive, I find myself in the hands of stylist Elena. She gives me a quick once-over, checking my split ends and lightly scolding me for not having a trim sooner – apparently I should be getting the ends trimmed on a strict bi-monthly schedule if I want it to grow longer.

We then move on to the subject of colour. I’d like highlights, though I explain I’m not looking for a brassy blonde shade, just a few different tones for a natural-looking lift, and to give the illusion of volume.

Without consulting a colour chart, Elena heads off and starts mixing the colours (I hope against hope that we’re on the same wavelength and she isn’t going to turn me platinum). Applying three different tones all over my head is a lengthy process, so I’m relieved when it’s finally time to hop to the basin for a rinse and toner. Back in the chair, I take a deep breath and pull the towel off my head, relieved to see a subtle scattering of golden flecks, and a lighter look overall. Elena then gives my hair a quick trim, reigning in my fringe, and I leave feeling satisfied with my hair colour for the first time in ages.

The results
It may be a little unorthodox not to be shown colour samples, but I’m pleased with the results, which leave me with much lighter brown hair, with glimpses of blonde and copper that give it extra shine.

• All the staff are incredibly friendly. The stylists are knowledgeable and really do their best to give you exactly what you’re asking for, which is rarer than you might think.

• The salon can get a little cold: some of the chairs are positioned directly beneath A/C blasts, so take a pashmina!
