In the evening, candles sit outside the shop front, acting like homing beacons to guide clients to the small, cosy salon, staffed by friendly Europeans. It has only been open just over a month, so everything from the chandeliers to the treatment chairs is brand new.
I’ve opted to try eyelash extensions, something many of the city’s most glamorous women now swear by as much as a manicure. We’ll be using Lash Perfect extensions, and providing I look after them, it should be up
to two weeks before I need to have them tended to.
Step by step
Arriving for my appointment, I’m greeted warmly by Iina, the Finnish salon manager who will be tasked with the delicate job of applying my new lashes. She sweeps me into a treatment chair, flicks a switch and I begin to recline. After examining my natural lashes and asking me what kind of look I would like to achieve (I’m hoping for it to look like a fantastic mascara, and not stage make-up), Iina explains she will be using 10mm, 11mm and 12mm lashes with a more distinct curl to them. It’s going to take up to two hours for Iina to complete the full set – fortunately, the salon environment is relaxing enough that I find myself drifting in and out of sleep as she works.
Looking into the mirror for the first time, I’m nothing short of thrilled. The effect is fluttery and not too heavy, striking but not obviously fake. It’s definitely the best job anyone has ever done on my lashes for me – and after two days, they’ve already lasted longer than my last pair.
