The DollHouse salon in Dubai Ladies Club

We try a new hair treatment in Beach Park Plaza Centre

Tried & tested

The salon
Decked out in bright, bold colours that lend it a funky rather than garish feel, The DollHouse appears to attract a young, fashionable female crowd. The presence of iPads ready to use at every chair in the hair section is a strong indication that this place is all about modern luxury.

The promise
I’ve opted for a deep-cleaning scalp treatment by Redken, which my stylist tells me will banish any daily dirt and shampoo build-up, while giving me the volumising boost I’ve asked for. The subsequent blow-dry will be tailored to give my locks some extra lift.

Step by step
While my hair is dry, it’s separated into sections, and the deep-cleaning mixture is applied to my scalp bit by bit. Each line of liquid is rubbed firmly into my skin before the stylist moves onto the next section. After a short while, my whole scalp is covered in the mixture, and my hair is combed through. Only a small amount of liquid has been applied overall, so it doesn’t extend much further than my roots. There’s no waiting time, and I’m soon whisked over to the sink for a rinse and double shampoo. Once we’re back in the chair, my hair is again divided up as she begins the blow-dry. Once each portion of hair is dry, it is carefully inserted into medium-sized rollers. It’s not my most glamorous look ever, but once the rollers are removed and my hair is brushed down over my shoulders, my concern evaporates.

The results
Immediately after the treatment, I’m left with soft, Hollywood-esque waves, and my naturally quite thin hair looks much thicker and shinier than usual. If you have an event to get to, make sure you’re picked up right outside the door – my 20-minute hunt for a cab meant the humidity all but banished any hints that I’d just had a blow-dry.

On the upside, the treatment seemed to have worked wonders – my hair took much longer to get greasy again, even a week into my washing routine.

Pros
• This is a fun, relaxing place to hang out (it feels more like a social club than a salon) and sells a great range of products.
• The staff are friendly, helpful and keen to give you exactly what you’ve asked for.
• Prices are reasonable despite the rather swanky surroundings.

Cons
• Staff could do with being a bit more liberal with the hairspray while it’s still humid outside – but this hardly qualifies as a complaint.
