There’s a sense of panic in the air now that beach season has returned – some of us are regretting a summer spent hibernating with nothing but a mobile phone and a stack of takeaway menus for company. Fortunately, help is at hand thanks to Urban Energy Fitness’s new Little Black Dress package, which aims to help you drop a dress size in eight weeks (this week is your last chance to sign up to fit into that NYE outfit). But watch out for Dubai-based delivery services that claim to be healthy – according to one nutritionist, the calorie content in some of these meals can be up to 25 percent more than the owners claim.
October saw Dubai go breast cancer awareness-mad, from bake sales to walkathons and sewing marathons to free mammograms. And now it is, of course, Movember, and there are plenty of ways for men to get in on the hairy-faced action, from the conventional to the bizarre – and it’s all in the name of prostate cancer. Men’s salon Chocolate by Jelena will offer shaves at a special rate later in the month, with ten percent going to charity – and you’ll also earn points on the venue’s new loyalty scheme. Feeling left out, ladies? Taqado Mexican Kitchen at Mall of the Emirates will be handing out Mexican moustaches, and for every picture of a real ’tache put on the Facebook page, it will donate Dhs1 to the Movember charity.
And finally, the city’s gym bunnies are hopping about with extra excitement this week at the launch of new Jumeirah gym Engine Health and Fitness (www.ehf.ae). According to one fitness fan ‘it is unlike anything [she has] seen before’ and has ‘all the best equipment’. Visitors can pay per class from Dhs55. Rest assured we shall be checking it out very soon. Until next week, keep smiling and keep healthy.
