Vita Liberata’s self-tan range is organic and free from parabens, perfume and toxins. It promises to deliver a natural, streak-free colour with a gel that dries instantly and wears off with a ‘perfect fade’.
Step by step
I’ve opted for the ‘extra rich silken chocolate (medium)’ tinted gel, which will allow me to make sure I have even coverage. For more seasoned fake-tanners, there are also untinted versions available. It’s recommended I use a tanning mitt (also available in the range), but I apply the gel using my hands, quickly rinsing every few minutes as instructed. Just a couple of minutes after applying the lotion, I hop into my white sheet-adorned bed, the ultimate test of the product’s fast-drying claims.
The morning after, I find only a small, light patch of orange on the pillow – the rest of my bedclothes have escaped unscathed. Result! However, the tan has developed that biscuity smell typical of many fake tans. On the upside, the coverage is very even – so streak-free that I’m happy to brave a skirt.
• The tint helped to avoid streaks.
• It dries quickly, so you don’t have to wait to get dressed or go to bed.
• It’s better for skin than sunbathing.
• You may smell of biscuits for 24 hours after applying the product.
