Summer feet treatments

Four pedicure combos to treat your toes in the summer heat

We put four pedicure combo treatments to the test to make sure your toes are prepped for summer holidays

Our feet get more exposure during summer than any time of the year, which means that maintaining their appearance is crucial. There’s nothing worse than unsightly toes and chipped nail polish poking out of summer sandals and rubber flip flops. Here, we round up four slightly different summer treatments to get your feet ready for their beach debut, and tell you where men can get their toes tended, too!

De La Mer Voya Foot & Leg Ritual with pedicure

The experience: The process begins with a pedi and my nail technician, Elmie, spends a whopping 25 minutes exfoliating my feet until they’re soft. She then applies a seaweed scrub to my feet and calves, which smells divine. Afterwards bands of live seaweed are wrapped around my legs and left for five minutes. Once removed, cream is massaged into my feet before painting my toe nails.
The results: I leave feeling rejuvenated with gorgeous feet.
Best for: Anyone who is on their feet for long periods of time, runs, works out on a regular basis or tends to have dry skin around their calves and feet.
Dhs250 for 90 minutes. De La Mer Spa, Jumeirah Beach Road, Umm Suqeim 2 (04 328 2775).

Perfect Sense Paraffin treatment with pedicure

The experience: My treatment takes place at the newly refurbished Pastels Salon, where my therapist heats two giant plastic booties containing a pouch of paraffin in a small heating chamber. She then slips the bags onto my feet, giving them a soothing massage. A towel boot is then placed over and I’m left to let my feet soak for 15 minutes. Once the bags are removed, a foot scrub is applied. It isn’t messy or fussy and the warmed paraffin creates a soothing sensation, which ultimately makes this a relaxing and enjoyable treatment.
The results: My skin feels soft and the carefully and delicately applied Gelish pedicure leaves me eager to show off my feet in sandals. I’m told the pedicure will last two weeks, and I’m happy with the result.
Best for: Anyone who finds that specialist creams do not provide enough moisture for their feet and lower legs.
Dhs240 for 90 minutes. Pastels Salon, Ritz-Carlton Dubai, The Walk at JBR, Dubai Marina (04 399 5016/04 318 6141/052 951 5483).

Cucumber Hand and Foot mani-pedi treatment

The experience: After prepping my hands and feet for a standard mani-pedi, the therapist applies a cooling minty-green exfoliation and begins sloughing away the dead skin on my arms, hands, feet and calves. She then uses warm towels to remove the residue before applying a thick cucumber mask to the areas and wrapping them up in cling foil. It feels somewhat slimy and I’m thankful when the hot towels make a second appearance. Lastly, she moisturises my feet with a thick cucumber paste before painting my nails the desired colour.
The results: My skin feels soft and supple, but it doesn’t last longer than a day or two.
Best for: Those looking for a cooling, quick zap of moisture on their skin to help them escape the heat.

The All in One pedi at N.Bar

The experience: I take a seat, while the friendly therapist smoothes and exfoliates my feet in several stages. First a relaxing soak in warm water with dead sea salts, then a soothing menthol scrub is applied. Finally a cooling eucalyptus mask is applied, and (amusingly), the therapist leaves my creamed up feet in plastic bags for a few minutes to trap in the moisture. The treatment includes nail and cuticle care, and finally she paints my toenails in my chosen colour.
The results: After the pedicure, my feet feel soft, my soles feel smooth and my toe nails are neatly, and perfectly filed and painted, which lasts for several days afterwards.
Best for: Anyone with cracked feet who needs some intensive TLC, such as those with particularly dry skin, or those with busy schedules who haven’t had time for a pedicure in a while.
