Willow Stream Spa tried & tested

We weren't impressed by the upper body treatment

Jenny Hewett tries an upper body treatment at Willow Stream Spa.

The promise
The Tranqwillow Face and Back experience vows a relaxing upper-body rejuvenation, including a back cleanse and exfoliation, massage and pressure point facial.

Step by step
First up, I’m given a brief tour of the spa facilities and the relaxation room, which has impressive views of the ocean and Marina. My British therapist escorts me to the treatment room and as I lie face down on the massage table, she covers my lower half in a down duvet before beginning the back cleanse and exfoliation. The sensation is oddly unsettling: half of my body is in bed while the other half is being prepped for a shower. After removing the residue with wet towels, next begins a back massage, which is certainly relaxing, although it lacked any real horsepower (to be fair, I asked for medium pressure). To finish, I roll over and the therapists covers me up to my neck in the duvet (which, by this point, is very hot) before starting the facial. Unfortunately, all I can think about is overheating and I kick my feet out to the side of the bed as I start to feel nauseous.

The results
Rather than relaxed, I’m more relieved to be free from the hot duvet. While the exfoliation and massage were relaxing, I couldn’t let myself fully get into the treatment, as I was too hot to the point that I started to feel sick.

Pros
• The therapist was calming and friendly.
• The relaxation room is light and airy, and each seating area offers reading glasses.

Cons
• The duvet component to the treatment was uncomfortably hot.
• The back cleanse and exfoliation didn’t include the arms.
• The treatment is considerably overpriced for what it is.
