Heat-proof makeup in Dubai

Fantastic beauty looks that will last on damp and shiny faces

Dubai makeup artist Lidia Trzos talks to us about fantastic beauty looks that will last on even damp, shiny faces.

As soon as the weather in Dubai gets slightly cooler, chances are you’ll find yourself flocking outside to enjoy the great outdoors after spending the summer months cooped up in air-conditioned apartments, offices and cafés. Despite the cooler temperatures, winter in Dubai can still play havoc with your makeup thanks to increased humidity levels that can reach up to 90 percent. With that in mind, we sought some expert advice.

Daytime Look 1: Lips that ‘pop’
1 After applying your base makeup (moisturiser, primer if you have oily skin and oil-free foundation), sweep over some loose powder.

2 Apply a small amount of light eye shadow all over the lid.

3 Brush on a little mascara for definition, not volume.

4 Apply bold, matte lipstick in your preferred shade. Dab on with a finger for the best finish.

Daytime Look 2: Soft bushy brows
1 Brush your brows upwards using a brow comb.

2 Take a brown eye shadow and, using a small, fine brush, fill in the gaps with soft strokes.

3 Comb again to complete the look. If you need your eyebrows to stay fixed, you can apply clear mascara, though this will give a slightly harder look.

4 Add vivid lip colour for some added drama.

Evening Look 1: Stand-out eyeliner

1 Apply a primer base to your eyelids.

2 Brush a flesh-coloured shadow over eyes lightly to set the primer.

3 Apply your preferred colour using small strokes, starting from the inner corner and working outwards, flicking up towards the end of the brow.

4 Apply a little mascara – but be careful not to add so much that you hide the eyeliner.

What you’ll need
Maybelline mascara (see daytime look for details).

Kryolan cream liner, colour: ‘dark orchid’.
Dhs95. Kryolan, Al Barsha (04 454 8559).

Evening Look 2: Smoky Metallic Eyes
1 Apply a primer base to your lid – gold is best, but any will do.

2 Sweep over your preferred metallic eye shadow, covering the lash line and eye crease.

3 Use a lighter shade of your preferred colour to blend on the lid, and blend outwards to widen the eye.

4 Draw on waterproof eyeliner along the lash edge, and smudge to cover any parts you’ve missed (don’t worry about precision with this one).

5 Define the waterline of the eyes using a black or near-black gel eyeliner.

6 Brush on your mascara.

Make-up Essentials
1 Go as bare as you dare, which means choosing sheer tinted moisturiser over heavy foundations, or choose oil-free foundation for work – you’ll get better coverage.

2 Always wear suncream or something with an SPF.

3 Choose waterproof formulas to avoid clogging the pores or caking.

4 Use light concealer to cover dark circles under the eyes or reduce any redness.

5 Use loose powder/anti-shine powder for the T-zone.

6 Keep a stash of blotting tissues handy.
