Hayley Skirka tries out a cut and highlights at Colour Masters Hair Salon in Dubai Marina.
Salon director Khaled Kahel trained in London for ten years and his speciality is highlights.
Step by step
Khaled looks at my dry, unruly locks and natural curls and doesn’t instantly despair. He asks about my lifestyle and how much time I want to spend on my hair, listens carefully to my answers, then offers two suggestions. One involves sticking with highlights but applying them so that they look fresh and natural, the other is an all-over colour to complement my skin tone. I decide that since highlights are his speciality, I’ll give them one last try.
As he applies the foils he chats away, putting me at ease, and then applies a colour similar to my natural shade to break up the blonde. After a wash and lush head massage, I’m back in the chair. I’m paranoid about hairdressers cutting away my length so he simply makes a few fine cuts around my face.
I love the result. I really thought I was done with highlights but it looks natural and the cut is perfect.
• Khaled listens to what you say and works with you.
• He knows his stuff when it comes to matching colour to complexions.
• The salon is never packed as they prefer to dedicate time and effort to individual clients.
•They are strictly a hair salon, so mani-pedi lovers, look elsewhere.
