The importance of pampering

Cleopatra Spa manager explains the importance of being pampered

Spa manager of Cleopatra’s Spa and Wellness, Beverley Spencer, explains the importance of pampering sessions.

What would you say the main causes of stress are for adults today? Are there any common ‘symptoms’?
Generally speaking, people are working longer hours and have more responsibility in their jobs. It is becoming increasingly common that both parents with children are working full time,
and to achieve a healthy work-life balance is becoming challenging for some families. There is often a tendency to forget ‘self’ amid busy schedules. Time set aside for personal wellbeing is a necessity. To not recharge at regular intervals may lead to physical and mental deficiency such as exhaustion, insomnia, and hypertension.

How can visiting a spa help?
An excellent spa experience will awaken all senses which makes the perfect environment to rejuvenate, regenerate, relax and recover. Visiting a spa allows you to surrender yourself to the care of the therapist; let the professional take care of you! A great benefit of a spa treatment is that it is an excellent physical, mental and emotional experience that simply lingers well after the actual treatment has finished. At Cleopatra’s there is a crèche located in the Pyramids, which gives parents the opportunity to visit the spa and pamper themselves while their children are left in the care of trained childcare professionals.

Are there any treatments that are designed to help reduce stress or that are particularly effective for hectic lifestyles?
More adults are starting to hit the gym to lower stress levels and yoga is becoming increasingly popular among health enthusiasts, so we have seen an increase in bookings from active gym-users. The most popular treatment is the deep tissue massage, which improves circulation, reduces muscular tension, aids detoxification through lymphatic drainage and relaxes the mind as well as the muscles. Cleopatra's Spa also has a selection of express treatments (facials, scrubs, wraps and massages) which are specifically designed to support the needs of those who live fast-paced lifestyles.

What health benefits can you gain from a spa visit?
Spas often offer therapeutic treatments for specific ailments, and here at Cleopatra’s, for example, we offer hijjama and ayurveda treatments, which are beneficial in treating conditions such as insomnia, lower back aches, headaches and other ailments.

How often would you recommend visiting a spa?
We would recommend visiting a spa twice a week, but it depends on the needs of the individual and things like their workload and financial situation. For therapeutic purposes, we would recommend that you visit the spa for advice from our professional on-site team. At the end of the day, a spa is what you make it, so even if you just make the time at home to create a quiet, peaceful space for yourself, or find a spot in the park where you can go and relax and be alone with your thoughts, that’s also a spa treatment. It’s all about taking the time to focus on yourself and your wellbeing, whether that’s physical or mental.
