An outdoor yoga experience on the beach in view of the Arabian Gulf and the Burj Al Arab. The class is a relaxed hatha session suitable for all levels.
Step by step
The class is set up in an attractive spot on Al Qasr beach, directly by the shore. Yoga mats and beach towels are provided. It’s a small class of less than ten people. The teacher, Vijay Sharma, takes us through asanas (such as a gentle round of sun salutations). There is nothing too advanced or too strenuous, but there is still an effective feeling of effort and stretch in the sequence and Vijay provides plenty of softly spoken motivation to go deeper into the poses when relevant. We are also guided through a few relaxing pranayama (breathing exercises), before a final shavasana relaxation.
The lovely beachside setting, plus the sounds of the sea’s waves and the wind, make even a tough asana feel like a relaxing pleasure. The class is very gentle, relaxing, and revitalising.

• For those who ordinarily feel strain on the knees or wrists, the sand acts as the perfect padding to minimise this.
