Five-step home tanning guide

Shauna Ramskill at Vita Liberata talks us through spraying the perfect tan at home
Step 1 Shower, exfoliate and remove hair 24-hours before tanning, using oil-free products. Just before application, your skin should be free from any make-up, deodorant, perfume and lotions.

Step 2 Apply an oil-free moisturiser to dry areas, such as elbows, hands and knees.

Step 3 Using a tanning mitt, apply the self-tan all over the body, working in circular movements to ensure flawless application.

Step 4 Once application is complete, use the product that is left on the mitt to tan the back of your hands, working away from fingers, towards the wrist. Avoid the skin between your fingers. Then tan the top of your feet, but not the sides.

Step 5 Wait six to eight hours for the tan to develop before showering. Moisturise the skin daily with an oil-free cream to maintain the tan.
