Tried & Tested: Epicuren Signature Facial at Spa Cordon

Go organic and vegan (for an hour) with this natural treatment

Body & mind

The promise
This signature facial treatment uses Epicuren products, which are made with organic and natural ingredients. One of the biggest claims for this facial is that most of these products are vegan-friendly, because they do not use animal by-products. However, this is actually not the case for all products used. If this is important to you, make the therapist aware so that she can exclude any non-vegan products from the treatment, which can be done easily.

Step by step
On arrival at the spa, we are given a welcome drink and a nicely scented cold towel. We are also given a form to fill in that is probably the most detailed (and possibly the most intrusive) spa form we have seen. The therapist is really sweet, friendly and softly spoken, creating a nice calm atmosphere. We snuggle into a really cosy spa bed, and the treatment begins. The therapist cleanses our skin, first with products and then with a short steaming process. She then examines it for a while to identify what issues she can help with. The treatment includes a number of masks, including a natural glycolic peel with cinnamon to bring blood circulation to the face. While the mask does its work, the therapist gives us a gentle hand massage. The treatment ends with a beautifully scented grapefruit moisturiser, eye cream and lip balm. After the treatment, we relax in Spa Cordon’s lovely lounge area with a cup of tea. You can also request healthy snacks, such as the popsicle of the day.

The result
Immediately after the treatment, the skin looks quite red and burnt, but it feels soft, smooth, hydrated and plumped up from within.

The treatment is relaxing, particularly the hand massage and Spa Cordon is a lovely environment to really unwind in with comfy spa beds and a lovely lounge area. We love the available snacks, too. The therapists are all approachable and friendly.

Although the therapist warns us of this in advance, the heat of the cinnamon peel is more aggressive than we expected, and is a quite unpleasant experience. Since each of the masks are also placed over each other, without being washed off individually, we leave the treatment room with some product residue still on our neck and nose.
