Roots in Al Barsha is a quiet, calm salon with frosted windows shutting you off from the giant sandpit outside. As soon as I stepped inside, I was ushered over to a chair and offered a drink. Mandy, the manager took one look at my frazzled, straightener-induced split ends and sent me straight to the sink for a conditioning treatment.
Roots uses the Redken range which works on a personalised, shot-based formula, so the stylist can knock up a tailor-made treatment according to your individual needs (of which mine were moisture, moisture, moisture). When I admitted to Mandy, with bowed head, that it had been six months since my last cut, she masked her horror and silently got to chopping with a determination not witnessed since Emaar started on the Burj Dubai. Though I only got a trim and some layers, I was amazed at what a difference the treatment made. My hair looked fuller, resurrected even. Roots isn’t the cheapest cut in town, but it’s not the most expensive either, and based on the high quality of my cut, and the fact it was exactly what I asked for, I’m definitely planning a return visit.
