Underwater yoga comes to Dubai Aquarium

Four weeks of sensory yoga sessions with freebies and prizes to be won

Body & mind

If you’re a yogi with a penchant for deep diving, you’ll soon be able to combine your two favourite things, thanks to the return of an underwater yoga class this weekend (Saturday February 17).

It might not be techincally underwater, but it’s as close as you’re going to get, with a session held in the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo at The Dubai Mall.

The yoga series has returned for a second season, following the popularity of its launch last year. The first session is called Healing with Sound – a slow hatha flow class that will combine yoga with a range of meditation techniques, including pranayama (meaning “control of breath”). Next Saturday, on February 24, there’s a dedicated session for working in tandem with your fellow yogi’s in the Partner Up class.

Saturday March 3 brings an up-tempo vinyasa flow session, which typically challenges your balance and coordination. This one is called Discovering Your Sight – and the organisers say it takes “vision out of the equation, allowing for a deeper appreciate of your surroundings”.

The final class on March 10 is about the sense of smell, with the use of fragrances during a vinyasa session to stimulate a greater sense of relaxation, meditation and clarity.

Classes are limited to 35 people each, so book now at booking.thedubaiaquarium.com to reserve your spot. Classes cost Dhs125 per person, and come with a coupon for a free session at Piloga’s studio, plus a free vegan snack bar, water and 20 percent off juice programmes from Essentially.

No need to bring a mat, Lululemon are offering technical yoga mats for each session, plus you’ll have a chance of winning a three-piece yoga outfit at each session.

This is one for the yoga-lovers out there.
