Every Friday afternoon, Accents plays host to the pumping party of WeBrunch – with its multiple drinks stations, lively atmosphere and excellent selection of food.

But maybe you’re not aware that on Thursday nights, the restaurant at InterContinental Dubai Marina offers an evening option promising throwback tunes and unlimited drinks, albeit with a scaled-back food offering.

With the brunch mainly taking place on the terrace (while they can), guests can still expect those glittering Marina views and a reasonable selection of house beverages included in the bargain Dhs249 four-hour package.

After a few issues with the clunky arrival process things look up thanks to rapid service, with our glasses rarely running empty. And for those quick beverages between orders, there are self-serve stations throughout the venue offering fruit concotions and juniper-based mixed drinks.
With the evening kicking off at 7pm, the food selection verges on the snack side, with sliders and a Mexican stall that pairs nachos with mac ’n’ cheese (not bad).

We’re not hugely impressed by the tacos – they’re cold and a bit too crunchy – but the chefs at the pasta station do an excellent job of whipping up fusilli with chilli, garlic and prawns.

Apart from that, there’s a meat station and plenty of breads (although sadly no cheese). Desserts are mainly ice cream and flavoured sorbets.
But nobody is really here for the food – they’re here for the party, and one hour in it’s more than in full swing.

By the halfway point, several eager tables are already crooning along to the DJ’s excellent selection of throwback hits, which takes us firmly back into the middle of the ’90s and through the noughties (and we said there was no cheese). By the end of the night, everyone’s up and dancing.

It’s not as busy as on Friday afternoons, with about a third of the restaurant full, and the atmosphere is far more laid-back with a vibe of letting your hair down – but we like it.

This is a solid option to end the week, but don’t expect great shakes from the dishes.
Dhs199 (soft drinks), Dhs249 (house beverages), Dhs299 (premium beverages). Thu 7pm-11pm. InterContinental Dubai Marina (04 446 6654).
