When we heard that Secret Parties had teamed up with Paru for a circus-themed brunch, we were excited. A popular party planning group, a restaurant with a Michelin-starred chef (Akira Back) at the helm and a quirky theme? Sounds like a brunch that ticks all the boxes for us.

Set on the rooftop of Caesars Resort Bluewaters and overlooking the Arabian Gulf and the JBR skyline, the views are unbeatable.

There’s both indoor and outdoor seating and with the weather being dreamy on our visit, our table is on the terrace.

Sharing-style starters hit the table swiftly and include the likes of edamame, seaweed salad, salmon carpaccio with a tangy wasabi dressing, rock shrimp tempura, crispy calamari, tacos and marbled wagyu tataki with mixed mushrooms and truffle soy.

Service is attentive and keen – maybe too keen, as an eager waiter hurryingly tries to clear our starters about ten minutes after they’d been served (and with all the plates still full of food).

Mains are à la carte, with the choice between wagyu rib-eye, black cod, salmon, chicken and crispy tofu with Beyond beef. They come served with vegetable fried rice and seafood yaki noodles to share. We opt for the miso black cod with a delicate basil-miso sauce and the black pepper wagyu rib-eye.

Both dishes hit the spot and we’re left feeling happy and for those with an appetite for raw fish there’s also a live station of sushi, sashimi and maki inside.

Desserts are a highlight and come served afternoon-tea style alongside a separate creamy lemon dish, shaped like a lemon, and engulfed with dry ice – with all very cute and Insta-worthy.

And what about the party atmosphere? After all, that is what Secret Parties are famed for, right?

From the get-go the music is pumping – albeit too loud to begin with, to the point where we’re almost shouting at each across the table, but we soon start bopping along in our chairs.

Drinks are free-flowing with a couple of stations dotted around and as the brunch goes on, the atmosphere really livens up.

About midway through, a group of multi-skilled circus performers make their way in for a live show and once the show is over and done, the performers – acrobats, jugglers, and stilt walkers – walk about encouraging eager partygoers to get involved in the silliness. The crowd love it all, and so do we.

For those looking to keep the party going, the brunch ends with a post-brunch bash until 9pm with three drink tokens for Dhs100. Party brunch, indeed.
Dubai’s newest party brunch has impressed and we’re left feeling full, well-entertained and with plenty of snaps for the ’gram.
