Brunch review: Familyfest at Caesars Resort, Bluewaters Island

A Friday feast that is all about the kids

When a brunch calls itself family-friendly, we have come to expect a dedicated play area for the smalls and perhaps a mini buffet for little ones to fill themselves up with.

But the circus-themed Familyfest brunch goes way beyond the standard face painting and slime-making stations – though these are there too; on the al fresco terrace housed in one of several pretty teepees.

On the way in we stop to strike a family pose in the magic selfie mirror (the hilarious pictures are then delivered to our table later on) and also to take a snap of the kids in front of the huge colourful doughnut wall.

As well as the outdoor terrace, there are several tables inside next to the adult’s buffet, which though not huge, serves up plenty of choice from salads, sushi and soup to seafood, cheese and cold cuts.

For mains, hit the carvery as well as the Indian station for a butter chicken that warrants a second helping, and don’t miss the Italian section where a masonry oven produces perfectly-cooked margherita and frutti di mare pizzas.

But it’s the kids’ buffet that wows, with fairground-themed food displays filled with tasty treats that look almost too pretty to eat... Almost.

The little ones are fully immersed in sand art outside, while the ten-year old disappears to enjoy the PS4s, foosball and an air hockey table in ROAM.

The food tastes so much better because the kids are having such a good time, meaning we don’t have to deal with any whinging or arguing – the stuff of parental weekend dreams.

A band of acrobats appears in the restaurant juggling on unicycles and performing tricks, much to the kids’ (and our) amazement.

A fun magic show by Time Out Kids’ very own Magic Phil, and a bubble show, get a lot of giggles from the young audience.
This is a kids’ brunch, that is adult-friendly; and we love it.

What the kids say
The ten-year-old
The teen room is seriously cool, with PlayStations where you can play FIFA, plus foosbal and air hockey tables. The slushy machine is my favourite.

The six-year-old
This is my favourite brunch ever. Magic Phil is there and he’s so funny, plus the circus performers are awesome and the arts and crafts teepees are so much fun.

The four-year-old
I love Magic Phil, he’s so funny. I also love making slime, even though it makes Mummy a bit sad.
