Festive dish: Super sarnies

What’s more festive than a turkey sandwich? We tuck in at The Carving Board

Christmas

Sarnies, toasties, subs, cobs – whatever you choose to call them, we love a proper sandwich, especially at Christmas. So where better to get your festive bread-based meal this season than at a dedicated sandwich shop?

Billed as a “fast-casual specialty sandwich franchise that transforms classic comfort dishes into sandwiches”, brand-new City Walk eatery The Carving Board is where to head this Christmas, with more than 50 varieties of sandwich on its extensive menu.

Set up by brothers and co-founders David and Yoav Adir, this Dubai outlet is the first branch outside the US for the chain, which already has eateries in California, including in Hollywood and West LA. And there are two more due to open in Dubai in 2018.

“Dubai has such an amazing food culture and we love the fact we can not only add to it but bring our translation of sandwiches,” says David Adir of his creation.

We love the sound of the spaghetti and meatballwich (Dhs45) and The Emirati – which is exclusive to Dubai and made up of turkey, goat’s cheese, avocado, walnuts and dates (Dhs42). But you’ll agree there’s none more appropriate for the Most Wonderful Time of Year than this turkey version.

Herb-roasted turkey is layered with home-made stuffing, grilled onions, turkey gravy and dried cranberries on toasted sourdough.

The best news? It’s served with an extra side of gravy for dipping, just like at home. All that’s missing is a tin of Quality Street. We’ll meet you there on Boxing Day.
Dhs40. Open daily 8am-11pm. The Carving Board, City Walk, www.eattheboard.com.
