Head down to Marina Mall every Thursday to take part in family community drum circles and fire dancing. All ages and abilities are welcome to join, and drums are provided.

Donate your unwanted items to TakeMyJunk
TakeMyJunk collects unwanted household items, from furniture to clothing. Proceeds from the sales are used to provide meals, medical care and help for needy individuals across the UAE. Pick-up service is available. Ongoing. Drop-off point: Pastels Hair Salon, 873 Al Wasl Road, (050 179 4045).

Foster a cat and help Feline Friends
Cat-rescue organisation Feline Friends is looking for volunteers to foster cats and kittens, even if only for short periods at a time, to enable it to help more abandoned pets or strays. There are also opportunities to help out by running stalls at regular book sales and in the call centre.

Donate unwanted trainers to Soles for Souls
Got a pair of kicks you no longer use that are still in good condition? Established by long-distance runner Tori Leckie, Soles for Soles is taking donations of trainers and passing them on to the UAE’s labourers. Just make sure they’re clean.

African djembe and Arabic tabla classes
Drop in to these popular community drumming classes and learn to play the African djembe drum, which the organisers claim is a great way to de-stress. Alternatively, participants can also learn to play the tabla. Djembe Dhs50 per session, Tabla Dhs60 per session, drums provided.

Join this group, which describes itself as ‘business networking – without the suits, the formality and the stupid jargon’ and be invited to attend their next meet-up, which will take place over a few drinks. Open to all professionals, from any sector.

Do something worthwhile with Friends of Cancer Patients
This local charity raises money, organises awareness campaigns and supports people battling cancer, as well as their families.
