GPP Slidefest VII
Slidefest is a quarterly event organised by Gulf Photo Plus, held in an auditorium with the capacity for an audience of more than 300. Locally based photographers present personal projects and share inspiring work using fast-paced presentations, followed by a short Q&A session.

Grape club gathering
Dubai ‘Grape’ Club meets for blind tasting and socialising this evening. Attendees sit on tables of 10, while six grape beverages are poured for guests to taste – each bottle is covered, and after discussions and voting, the labels are revealed.

Community drumming

Animal Action’s dog adoption day
If you’re looking to foster or adopt, the dogs will be off-leash so that anyone interested can spend a few hours playing with the animals and seeing how they interact with other people and dogs. Most are still puppies, and just a few are more than a year old. ID is essential for those planning to adopt or foster.

Take your recyclables to Emirates Environmental Group’s family day
Every Saturday, EEG encourages families to visit its headquarters on Jumeirah Beach Road to drop off any recyclable household waste, including plastic, tetra packs (that’s juice boxes, to the uninitiated) aluminium cans, paper and glass.

 If you have old sneakers kicking around the house, Soles for Soles is taking donations of trainers to give to the UAE’s labourers. Just make sure they’re clean.

African djembe and Arabic tabla classes
Drop in to these popular community drumming classes and learn to play the African djembe drum, which the organisers claim is a great way tode-stress. Alternatively, participants can also learn to play the tabla.

Bi-weekly photography meet-up
Today’s theme is ‘fore, middle and background’, so bring your pictures on this theme on a USB stick, labelling each image with your full name. There will be 10 minutes of announcements, followed
by the 45-minute main session, a short break, then a 15-minute member showcase, and 30 minutes allocated for theme pictures. After that, attendees are free to socialise.
