De-stress with yogic pranayama and meditation

Make a donation to Flea 4 Charity
The organisation is hosting an Eid event for orphans and needy kids at the Al Hemam Institute on Saturday August 17 and is looking to raise funds to provide games and gifts, as well as clothes and school bags with stationary. Visit the website or tweet the team to find out how you can contribute.

Cat and kitten adoption day
Every Saturday, The Animal Project hosts a feline-adoption day in order to find permanent homes for abandoned and rescued pets. Be sure to take your ID and a cat carrier if you’re planning to adopt. The organisation is also in desperate need of short and long-term fosterers to help out.

Learn new moves and socialise
Dubai’s Strictly Come Modern Jive meets for ceroc classes at Bodylines dance studio at the Towers Rotana, followed by freestyle dancing at Long’s Bar. Beginners from 7.30pm, intermediate from 8.30pm.

Make your own greetings cards
Can’t find an appropriate card in the shops? Dubai’s Doodleclick online service allows you to create your own and then prints and sends by courier to arrive (anywhere in the UAE) the next day.

Rent books for summer
Online book rental club Reader’s Paradise offers thousands of titles, across genres including autobiographies, history, horror and many more. There are no due dates or late fees and books are picked up and dropped off.

Bid on art by Emirati artists for charity
Sharjah-based Tawasul Orphans Education Fund is currently running an online auction of works by Emirati artists to raise money for the education of underprivileged children.
