Show some love to your community by volunteering your time and expertise right now.
Time is precious, but the act of giving to a worthy cause or someone in need is a valuable gift and something that is more pertinent than ever during the Holy Month, a time for self-improvement and being charitably minded. There are lots of causes here that need your time, skills and expertise – a quick look at our listings on page 35 will show you that Dubai is full of organisations that are non-profit and depend on the goodwill of volunteers. Here, we take a look at some in the city that are in need of your attention.
This animal rescue service is always happy to hear from willing, volunteers and 38 Smiles focuses on providing foster homes to abandoned animals, caring for their veterinary and dietary needs until a permanent home is found. With the mass exodus of families leaving the emirate in the hotter months, 38 Smiles needs volunteers more than ever to house its roster of strays. It is also looking for people with graphic design skills to create posters and fliers for events and adoption days. The organisation regularly hosts flea markets and is also looking for helpers who are willing to assist with the events.

Clowns who Care
They say laughter is the best remedy and The Clowns Who Care project is a volunteer initiative created by Dubomedy Arts, aiming to bring some laughter therapy to vulnerable and sick people in special needs and senior centres, charity organisations and hospitals. It has a team of volunteer artists who play games, sing songs, tell jokes, dance and lead workshops all in order to put a smile on someone’s face. This summer, it will be organising a Ramadan iftar for children with special needs and their care-givers. The date is to be confirmed but the group will be on the lookout for volunteers to help with the food, Arabic storytelling and procuring gifts for all of the kids. Clowns who Care will also be heading to Bangladesh for Eid to celebrate the festival with the underprivileged community and are in need of Bollywood and traditional Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi dancers and musicians to perform.
