Plans for a huge new neighbourhood have been announced by Dubai Media Office, and will see the creation of Uptown Dubai.
The new district will be at the site formerly known as the Burj2020 District, located further back from Jumeirah Lakes Towers, and there are some enormous plans for it.
It’s being referred to as “a world-class district”, which DMCC (the master developer behind JLT and one of the world’s leading Free Zones) says is set to become the new hotspot of Dubai, offering a 24-seven “live-work-thrive” experience for its residents and businesses.
Uptown Dubai will deliver a 10 million square foot residential and enterprise hub, with seven towers, seven different levels and podiums, which house 200 retail and food and beverage outlets. There will be approximately 3,000 residences, a huge central entertainment plaza and a range of luxury hotels which it says will offer “supreme” amenities to residents, workers and guests.
The district’s main podium will feature a two-level central plaza, flanked by a range of outlets and connected to a new mall below.
The signature sight of Uptown Dubai will be two “iconic, super-tall” towers designed by internationally renowned architects Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill from Chicago, who also designed the 1 Dubai Tower.
“Uptown Dubai is a world-class smart district unlike anything on the market, innovatively designed to deliver a new beat for business, and a truly urban destination for people to live, work and thrive, said Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman of DMCC. “Two super-tall towers and a vibrant central plaza will anchor the 10 million sq ft development, creating an ultra-connected, energising district designed to meet Dubai’s next wave of growth. This landmark development will create over 10,000 new jobs in Dubai.”
It will also be connected to the public transport network, and its location will lend itself well to access to the Expo 2020 site in Dubai South, as well as Al Maktoum International Airport. Residential properties will be available for sale in the first quarter of 2018.
