Located in the heart of the city you’ll find Waterfront Market – Dubai’s largest fresh food marketplace. Building on the heritage and the iconic status of its predecessor, the old Deira Fish Market, the market represents a fusion of traditional Emirati culture and the multicultural spirit of Dubai.

And for the second year running, Waterfront Market has partnered up with Dubai Culture & Arts Authority for its now annual murals and art competition.

The creative contest aims to inspire the region’s aspiring artists, with the theme this time being the Year of Tolerance, which ties in with the country’s vision for 2019.

Two budding artists will have the chance to win some mega prizes. The first winner will be a painter, and their masterpiece will be showcased on a wall at Waterfront Market. The second winner, a sculptor, will have their creation memorialised in the halls of the market for years to come.

The up-and-coming creators have the opportunity to become known for award-winning works of art. And let’s not forget that each winner will also receive a whopping Dhs15,000.

So, wannabe Picassos, it’s time to get involved. Participating is simple – just submit your work of art via Waterfront Market’s website and if you want to make any changes, you also have the chance to edit and resubmit your piece during the two-month submission period – which closes on Thursday October 17.

An experienced judging panel will individually evaluate the pieces based on their style, creativity, and the work’s relation to tolerance, coexistence, and harmony.

From there there will be a wait with bated breath until Friday November 1, when the winners plus five shortlisted candidates will be announced. And then the fun begins – with the live wall painting.

Those visiting the market will have a chance to watch the winning mural in progress and once completed, the artwork and the sculpture will be revealed to the public.

Not only does the competition aim to help grow the local art scene, it also hopes to elevate and champion local artists that help enrich the region by allowing them to express their inner creativity.

Fancy having your work on display? It’s time to get creative.
Deadline for submissions is Oct 17, find out more visit: www.waterfrontmarket.ae.
