DIFC’s gallery to bring a stand-out street art exhibition

Celebrate Opera Gallery Dubai’s tenth anniversary with Urban Poetry

We can’t get enough of Dubai’s thriving street art scene scattered around the walls of the city. Now the Opera Gallery Dubai is bringing them all together in a two-week art exhibition.

From Wednesday October 3 to October 17, DIFC’s long-standing gallery will be celebrating its tenth anniversary with a stand-out art show, Urban Poetry.

The exhibition will feature a collection of graffiti-inspired art pieces from talented artists Speedy Graphito, London Police and Ron English, along with a growing list of other artists.

Art lovers can expect unique art by American contemporary artist Ron English, whether that be the mockery of Ronald McDonald and the demanding fast food-centred society that we live in.

British street art collective London Police will also have their work featured across the gallery’s four walls, showcasing “the mingling of travel” and other bizarre and fascinating art designs. Think quirky black and white art with smiley faces and depictions of society.

There will also be work from French Street Art pioneer Speedy Graphito, with his colourful modern art pieces of iconic characters and up-to-date trends.

You may recognise some of these artists work, as art from London Police and Ron English are already around the walls of the city.

“The desire to paint in public locations has never faded,” explained director of Opera Gallery Dubai Sylvain Gaillard.

“Back then, a young generation of artists found that the best way to get their voices heard was to take their message to the streets or the subway.”

Since opening in 2008, the internationally established Opera Gallery Dubai has shown contemporary art from the most significant artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, including works from Chinese artist Wang Guangyi https://www.timeoutdubai.com/art/features/67646-wang-guangyi-exhibition-... and even iconic pieces of our favourite superheroes https://www.timeoutdubai.com/gallery/61721-opera-gallery-dubai-does-comi....

In the meantime, you can head over to Dubai’s Ahmedia Art Gallery for a free story-telling art exhibition until Saturday September 22. You’ll also get cup of Kadak Chai tea while you walk around the gallery.

Don’t miss out in this celebration of street art.
