Huge cultural film festival coming to Sharjah in January

A huge cultural film festival is coming to the UAE in January with a line-up of movies submitted from across the globe.

Sharjah Film Platform will run from Friday January 18 to Saturday January 26 presenting narrative, documentary and experimental films.

The works were submitted following an open call to international film-makers by Sharjah Art Foundation, and more than 150 will be screened.

The festival will run at venues across Sharjah, including Mirage City Cinema, Al Mureijah Square; Al Hamra Cinema, Al Majarrah; Africa Hall, Al Manakh; Al Hamriyah Studios, Al Hamriyah and Kalba Ice Factory, Kalba among others.

Providing a critical platform for established, emerging and aspiring filmmakers, SFP has three main components.

It includes a film festival, a public programme of talks, workshops and discussions as well as a production grant for short films.

As part of SFP’s festivalan internationally recognised jury of film professionals will select winners for the best films in different categories. They will receive cash prizes to recognise their film-making talent.

This is a great chance to see some alternative movies in the UAE.
